Operating Model Stagnation

AI can make a task faster while leaving the overall process almost unchanged. A document is drafted sooner, then waits in the same approval queue. Information is summarized automatically, then re-entered into another system. Local efficiency improves while the customer still experiences the same delay.

Operating Model Stagnation points to limited end-to-end redesign, unchanged roles and handoffs, and no meaningful removal of unnecessary steps. The underlying question is whether the organization has changed how work gets completed. Installing an assistant inside each existing role may leave the most expensive coordination problems intact.

Select one complete workflow for redesign over the next 90 days. Start with its business outcome, then map the decisions, handoffs, queues, exceptions, and duplicated effort. Examine which steps remain necessary, which can be combined, and which exist only because of an old system limitation. Give one business owner authority across the full workflow. Redefine responsibilities, update procedures, and specify how exceptions will be handled. Retain controls that serve a real purpose; eliminating steps is not an objective in isolation. Measure the result from beginning to end: completion time, quality, rework, service, and cost. Improvement should remain visible after the demonstration is over and normal operating conditions return.
